Understanding Pioneer Sports Hoof Boots
Pioneer Sports Hoof Boots are modular boots where every part is replaceable. The boots come fully assembled and ready to use, all you need to do is fit them on your horse correctly.
How to fit the boots
On first use, undo the straps so that the rear captivator is loose. Put the boot on the foot, then fit the rear captivator to sit snugly against the heel bulbs. Try the standard strap configuration first, and adjust it if necessary:
Attach the anchor straps
Attach both anchor straps to the middle mushroom screws on the inside and outside of the rear captivator. This strap should not be too tight, so that you can move the rear captivator up and down to find the correct position.
Attach the bottom front strap
Attach the bottom front strap on both sides to the lowest mushroom screw, making sure the straps are on the same hole position on both sides. This strap should be fairly tight, so that the fastening hole is stretched slightly.
Attach the top front strap
Attach the top front strap on both sides to the top mushroom screw, making sure the straps are on the same hole position on both sides. This strap is quite loose, with slight slack in the strap when fastened.

Guidance for use
Once you've put the boots on, check the following things:
Rear captivator position
The rear captivator should hug the heel bulbs, without being too high up in the nook of the pastern. Make sure that you can comfortably slide your finger between the top of the rear captivator and the horse's leg.
Check the boots after a few steps
Have you horse walk a few steps, the check the strap tightness and rear captivator position. As the hoof pushes all the way in to the front of the boot, the straps may need tightening and the rear captivator position should be adjusted if it's moved.
Start small, check the fit
Break the boots in gradually. Start with a short period of work, ideally in-hand, to make sure that the boots fit well, do not move, and that your horse is comfortable. Increase the length of wear gradually, and adjust the fit settings if necessary.
